Ban unregulated courses

The terrifying truth of the aesthetics industry and why unregulated courses must be banned.

BBC Three recently released Under the Skin: The Botched Beauty Business, a documentary exposing the unregulated aesthetics industry. The results were horrific. It shows an absolute necessity for regulations to be introduced in training courses. The effects of unregulated courses are damaging for the industry.

The documentary featured an undercover nurse attending a non-surgical face lift course, also known as a thread lift.

A thread lift is a procedure by which a practitioner inserts a thread into the patient’s skin and lifts the face upwards to create a similar effect to a face lift.

According to leading cosmetic doctor, Dr Vincent Wong, this is the most dangerous aesthetics procedure. When carried out incorrectly, so much can go wrong with this procedure in comparison to injectables.  It can lead to irreversible damage for the patient.

So, to qualify someone to deliver such a complex, intricate and dangerous procedure, you must be wondering how in-dept the training must be?

For this specific training school – 5 hours distant learning + one day practical.

Within this training, it was reported that proper hygienic standards weren’t met, the patient’s blood vessels were punctured during the procedure, and they were in obvious pain.

As a registered and insured training provider who teaches accreditations and qualifications for the beauty industry, this documentary totally shocked us. Unregulated courses like this bring so much damage to the industry.

The former president of the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS), Rajiv Grover states: “The non-surgical sector is rife with lax regulation and unethical promotions and the public must remain vigilant as ‘non-surgical’ does not mean the same as ‘non-medical’. These treatments have risks as well as benefits and patients must choose their practitioner very carefully.”

It’s not what the industry is about

The beauty and aesthetics industry are about making you look and feel good. Helping you feel confident in your own skin. Knowing you are beautiful inside and out.

Dangerous procedures carried out by people who have not been trained properly can cause long lasting damage. It’s not what the industry is about and as a training provider – with our passion for the industry at the heart of all we do – it’s not something we condone.

For anyone considering any treatment, from facials to thread lifts, it’s so important to make sure the practitioner carrying out your treatment is properly qualified!

Don’t leave your beautiful face or body in the hands of someone who has completed a one day, unregulated course!
