Make sure your course is accredited

Becoming a beauty professional is an investment of time, money and effort.  So choosing a training centre which will actually offer accredited courses is important.

Taking that leap of faith into a new career path, or making the decision to grow your business is a big step. The possibilities are endless and the potential is enormous.  Becoming self-employed in an industry that you are so passionate about can change your life and becoming your own boss brings so much opportunity and flexibility. Investing in yourself, to offer your clients more, lets your business grow and allows you to become more established.  Training in a course within the beauty industry is exciting, with endless possibilities.

But if you spend money, time and trust on a training centre that doesn’t offer fully accredited courses, the truth is your efforts could be wasted.

 

Professional or no-fessional?

Training with a centre who is not accredited could mean that getting insured to carry out the treatment isn’t possible.  Training centres who don’t offer legitimate qualifications can sometimes be cheaper but is it worth it to invest in a course to then realise you can’t become a certified professional in it?

Hearing stories from students that have now come to us, who have spent anything between £300 and £4,000 on courses which they can’t be insured for is horrific.  Investing in a training course is an investment in your future. It is something that should be built on and not taken advantage of.

The right stuff

Although hearing that a trainer or training centre is “established” can lead you to assume they must offer “insurable” accreditations, that is not always the case.  Check out what assurances they can give you to make sure you can get properly insured once you’ve completed your training. It’s so important!

 

THE GUILD

The Guild of Beauty Therapists is the biggest professional beauty trade body in the UK – having been around for over 20 years.  The Guild are also the largest insurance provider in the beauty industry so you can even become insured with them once your training is complete.

Body Massage, Eyelash Extensions, Foot Reflexology, Intimate Female Waxing, Lash & Brow Treatments, Pedicure, Professional Make Up, Spray Tanning, Waxing, Facial Treatments, Gel Polish, Manicure, Nail Tips with Acrylic Overlay.

 

HABIA

Habia is the Standards Setting Body for the hair and beauty industry, recognised by the government and in place to maintain professional standards.  Habia is in close ties with the educational aspect, and acts as a benchmark.

The Academy has the official stamp of approval from Habia, ensuring we are professionally reputable within the industry.

 

SQA

SQA approved centres follow the same guidelines as those set for secondary and higher education qualifications.  SQA is a quality assured awarding body and highly accredited.

The Academy offers SQA qualifications in;

Manicure, Pedicure, Gel Polish, Nail Tips with Acrylic Overlay.

CIBTAC

The Confederation of International Beauty Therapy and Cosmetology offers world-class qualifications in all aspects of beauty therapy.  CIBTAC focuses on being a high quality, reputable and advanced body.

The Academy is the only training centre in Scotland that offers CIBTAC qualifications in;

Award in Education and Micro Pigmentation (Semi Permanent Make Up – Brow Only).

 

The Academy of Clinical Training Diploma

An Academy of Clinical Training Diploma is an award created by our university qualified lecturers, recognised as a legitimate accreditation and one which allows therapists to be insured confidently.  Our diplomas are mostly accredited by ABT.  This is something we are passionately working on – an award to align with our ethics and values.

ABT is the UK’s largest Beauty Membership and Insurance provider.  They currently represent a huge portion of the industry; 18,000 Business Owners, Therapists, Nail Technicians, Holistic Practitioners, Hair Stylists and Barbers, 1,000 brands, training providers and suppliers and 146,000 potential clients per month.
