What is the endocannabinoid system?

“The most important physiologic system involved in establishing and maintaining human health”.

The endocannabinoid system helps to improve our fundamental physiological functions. It promotes homeostasis, affecting everything; sleep, appetite, pain, inflammation, memory, mood, reproduction. Homeostasis is regulated across the body systems ensuring all systems are in tune with each other by balancing the endocannabinoid system. Homeostasis can be achieved through the use of CBD products.

The ECS helps balance the regulation of homeostasis across all major body systems ensuring that all systems work together.

The endocannabinoid system helps to fine-tune most of our vital physiological functions. It promotes homeostasis, which affects everything from sleep, appetite, pain, inflammation, memory, mood and reproduction. The ECS helps modulate the regulation of homeostasis across all major body systems ensuring that all systems work in concert with one another.

So we know the ECS brings balance to the body. But what does it actually mean if the body is ‘off balance’?

Research has found a number of diseases that affect the endocannabinoid levels, such as arthritis and cancer. So it’s believed when the ECS is targeted, this restores balance in the body and promotes wellness with illnesses and ailments.

In some conditions related to pain hypersensitivity, such as IBS or migraines, the ECS is considered to be dysfunctional and therefore lies at the core of these conditions.

So where does CBD come in?

This is where CBD comes in. Cannabidiol (CBD) is a non-psychoactive cannabinoid found in hemp. CBD replenishes the endocannabinoid system; relieving symptoms, balancing the body and restoring health.

For years, hemp and marijuana have been used to treat conditions and illnesses all around the world. However, healers did not understand why these plants worked so well to relieve symptoms and heal patients.

Scientific research has come a long way since then. The discovery of the ECS was a pivotal point in the CBD movement. This led to the realisation that taking regular, small doses of cannabinoids would naturally replenish the ECS. This would alleviate / heal / prevent a huge number of illnesses and conditions.

Big up the CBD!

But isn’t cannabis an illegal drug?

There is one common misconception when the words ‘CBD’ or ‘cannabinoids’ are mentioned. Isn’t cannabis just a drug that gets you high and is actually illegal?

Cannabis makes you feel high when it includes THC – the psychoactive compound of the cannabis plant. When this is removed, you benefit from the purely natural effect of the plant, without feeling high.

In 2018, CBD was removed from the World Anti Doping Agency list of banned substances. This has allowed CBD products to be used in a pure, safe and legal form.
